Soon to become the next artistic phenomenon to emerge out of Rochester NY, Chi TheRealist is fully equipped to attract attention with his extreme versatility and passion for vulnerability.
Born James Lucious Boykins III, in Chicago IL, the multifaceted rapper, singer, actor, and spoken word artist began writing in 2008 due to the inspiration of his motherless upbringing. Three years later after catching the ears of his fellow classmates, and many moniker changes, the rapper now known as Chi TheRealist, a name given to him as a nod to his birthplace was born.
From creating remixes to the instrumentals of his idols, to constructing his own songs, by 2014 Chi was ready to make his first official release, and he did with “Smile”, his first single. Almost simultaneously, Chi decided to take up the art of poetry, joining the no longer formed national “Roc Bottom Slam Team”. Over the course of his poetry career Chi has received several nominations for “Best Male Poet” in Rochester’s “Roc Awards Show” Finally taking home the trophy in 2016. His credits also include participating and placing in numerous poetry slam competitions both independent and team at numerous colleges across New York State, even becoming an International Poet by competing in the 2016 Ontario International Poetry Slam (OIPS) in Guelph, Ontario.
Following his introduction to the slam poetry world, Chi released his first mixtape entitled Chi The Great…Or The God in 2016, which sold out completely within two weeks of it’s release. In 2018 after receiving the 2018 Hip-Hop Male of the Year for the Roc Awards, Chi kept the momentum going by gearing up to release a collaborative album entitled “…When We Party” Featuring various artists from Rochester and produced and co-created by Faceless Jon Doe. Chi has also been quietly working on his debut EP entitled Ventilation Vol. 1. as well as making his acting debut, playing a lead role in “CITY”, an Indie film starring Elijah Boothe & Sameerah Luqmaan-Harris.
